Our History
The history of the South Nashville Seventh-day Adventist Church is very exciting and energizing. Truly when one reviews our brief, but rich history, the individual can only conclude, “Look How Far God Has Brought Us.” The roots of Seventh-day Adventism in the greater Nashville, Tennessee area can be traced to the late 1800’s. As the years progressed and the city grew, Nashville became the home of several Seventh-day Adventist Churches. None of these Churches, however, held residence on the city’s south side. It was early in 1997 that Elder Joseph W. McCoy, President of the South Central Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, felt impressed by God that a permanent Seventh-day Adventist Church be planted on the city’s south side.
Elder McCoy comissioned then Conference Evangelist, Pastor Timothy Lewis, to engage in evangelistic efforts and plant a new Seventh-day Adventist Church on Nashville’s growing south side. Pastor Lewis, accompanied by the Real Truth Evangelistic Team, was led by the Holy Spirit and he successfully ran a series of evangelistic meetings including four Revelation Seminars and one Tent Meeting. The Lord blessed Pastor Lewis as over 200 souls were baptized as a result of the meetings. On January 24, 1998, the South Nashville Seventh-day Adventist Church was officially organized and accepted into the sisterhood of Churches within the South Central Conference.
After devoted and dedicated service throughout the Church’s humble beginnings and the 1998 calendar year, Evangelist Lewis decided to pursue evangelistic efforts with Real Truth Ministries on a full time basis effective December 31, 1998.
Pastor Carlton P. Byrd was then assigned by the South Central Conference Executive Committee to serve as the Pastor of this new, vibrant, growing congregation. Pastor Byrd has continued the trend of dynamic leadership for the South Nashville Seventh-day Adventist Church. Since Pastor Byrd’s arrival, the Lord has blessed the Church with the acquisition of nine acres of land in southern Nashville to construct a new Church edifice with proposed plans to include a Sanctuary, Educational Classrooms (for both Church programs and a Child Care Center), and a Gymnasium. Nearly fifty persons have also been added to the Church through baptism under the leadership of Pastor Byrd, as Church attendance and Church finances have also steadily increased under his administration as God continues to bless the Church spiritually, numerically, economically, and socially.
What to Expect
When you arrive for the first time at the South Nashville Church, you can expect to be greeted at the door our friendly Usher Team. They will be there to direct you to the Sanctuary, the restrooms or help you find Children’s church on 2nd and 4th Sabbath (for Children Ages 5 – 12).
We are delight to let you know that a countdown video will play five minutes before the service begins giving you plenty of time to get settled and mediate on God’s presence. Our Ushers will be happy to help you find a seat for you in the sanctuary should you need assistance.
Whether at the 11:15 am on a Sabbath or at the 7:00 pm Wednesday Service, it will begin with a time of Praise and Worship. The South Nashville Praise Team is full of energy and love to worship God and we are confident that you will enjoy our worship experience.
During the rest of the service, you will meet several of our Pastors and hear an awesome message from Pastor West or one of the other fantastic teaching elders here at the South Nashville Church.
At the conclusion of the service, you are welcome to visit the information booth to find out more about the ministries that we have at the South Nashville Church.
We are excited that you are interested in checking us out and we hope to see you soon here in Nashville.
Childcare & Families
We have a place for everyone at the South Nashville Church including your children as young as 5 years old through school age in our South Kidz ministries. Every family and child is checked-in with a children’s ministry coordinator at a Check-In station located in the main entrance of the children’s area. We have a secure system in place to ensure your child(ren) is safe during service and pick-up. You will receive a security tag to keep during service to present to the classroom teacher or coordinator after service to pick-up your child(ren). If we need to reach you during service, your security tag ID will appear on the screen in the sanctuary alerting you to go to South Kidz check-in station. Your child(ren) will attend a children’s ministry service with their peers, participating in Praise and Worship, Bible lessons and activities with trained teachers and team helpers. We believe that we are a ministry for children and families, strengthening the family unit and playing an integral part in laying a strong foundation of Biblical truths in children. Our foundational belief of children’s ministry is “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6, NKJV).
Worship Style
As service begins, one of our worship leaders will greet everyone from the stage as our lively, energetic music starts and people begin to stand. You will hear people around you singing loudly with the worship team on the stage. If you don’t care to sing with us…no worries, just listen and enjoy!
Along with people singing, the people standing around you may sway with the music or clap or even raise their hands as they sing. (this is simply a sign of surrender or thank you to the Lord) But no worries here either… if you prefer not to sway, clap or raise your hands… standing (or sitting) for our songs and enjoying the music is perfectly appropriate.
You may see different people leading the songs. Hey…they are nice people, you’ll like them! Please know that because the South Nashville Church is a multi-cultural, multi-generational church our music reflects many different styles and we are hopeful you will enjoy one or all of them.
